Bulk Materials International Co. in association with ArcelorMittal and FERRO DUO GmbH hosted a one-day symposium on Thursday, September 13, 2007 at the Occidental Miguel Angel Hotel in Madrid Spain. As production costs increase, raw material supply sources strained, and government regulation pressures present new challenges to manufacturing facilities, cement manufacturers must develop programs and new methods to address long term sustainable economic production. Bulk Materials International sponsored a full day of dynamic speakers presenting improved practices for the production of portland cement, the economic impact of proposed technology changes and the potential reduction of harmful emissions. Through the use of iron and steel slag as an alternative raw material in the process of making cement manufacturers can increase overall production while mitigating the impact of carbon dioxide emissions. By custom blending or altering the raw material mix, produce more cement clinker at a lower cost and benefit from resulting increased CO2 credits. Our technical experts demonstrated the benefits of introducing slag and other alternative by products into the production process. They sited actual results from plants using these processes and technologies introduced to them by Bulk Materials and discuss the effectiveness of the changes to the company’s bottom line. About the Host and Co-sponsors FERRO DUO is active in the field of additives for the construction industry and has clearly positioned itself in the market by implementing modern technology, being customer oriented, developing forward-looking products, and, not least of all, by contributing to environmental protection.
